Dev Spotlight: Chapter VII - Inn Tycoon

It's Sunday! And what better way to start the week than a brand new developer spotlight interview? Today we are talking to Emir and his colleague Gökhan of Evil Goose Games and this is their game: Inn Tycoon.

  1. How would you describe Inn Tycoon to someone who has never heard of the game before?

Inn Tycoon is a relaxing management game where you build and manage a medieval Inn. It is a strategy/tycoon game, where you start with a small inn and serve customers to expand and build rooms and other services like beds, various food, bath and many more. As days go by, seasons change. Every season has an effect on gameplay. You gain reputation by serving customers then use that reputation to host special events which give you bonuses and draw in special guests.

  1. It's just you and your colleague working on Inn Tycoon. Is this the first game that you've worked on together? If so, who came up with the idea for the game?

We are also working with a friend, Bulut, who is a sound engineer. He is making the music and sound effects. Gökhan and I have been working together for almost four years in a mobile game development studio. We made countless prototypes and released some of them. We both are Pc gamers and always wanted to make our very own Pc game. I always loved management games and wondered if we could make a small, more casual one that won't overwhelm players with details, in a short development time. When the opportunity rose, we took the leap and quit from our jobs to fully commit to Inn Tycoon.

  1. What aspects of Inn Tycoon are you most proud of?

I would say Simplicity. While we primarily aimed to create the game for management fans, we also wanted everyone to be able to play it easily. Moment the game starts, the Inn will be running on its own, gradually introducing the players to the details without overwhelming them. Also having crafted a visually and technically pleasing PC game in a relatively short development cycle is another aspect we are proud of. When I was working for the mobile gaming industry, I hardly ever worked on a game that I would play and enjoy, but with Inn Tycoon we are making a game that I would spend hours playing.

  1. When did development for Inn Tycoon start and what have you taken away from the experience?

It started in June 2023 for Gökhan and September 2023 for me. Both of us quit our jobs before getting into this, and we weren't sure about our financial stability. Now, we believe our game is receiving good attention, but the most important lesson we've learned is that marketing is crucial right from the start. Making efficient use of the development time for reaching out to the player base was highly important for a small team like ours.

  1. Will there be any shady characters who try staying at the inn?

Right now we are aiming for a relaxing experience, the player's sole focus will be on managing the economy. The game will be released shortly and we want to add new content regularly, so that we can add things like "the shady character" providing it fits the theme.

  1. What inspired you to create Inn Tycoon with a medieval setting?

We think there is a market for a relaxing medieval management game. We love and play games like Tavern Master, Winkeltje, Crossroads Inn but all those games have very detailed micro management aspects for crafting, management, building etc. Inn Tycoon differs from those games as a more casual, player friendly game. You can sit back, relax and build your medieval inn while listening to our relaxing medieval tunes.

  1. How best can potential players of Inn Tycoon show support for your game?

Well first of all adding the game to their Steam Wishlist will be a huge support and morale boost for us. Also players can try our demo and give feedback, we read and answer all the comments. Also anyone interested can join our discord channel.

Be sure to show your support for Evil Goose Games by adding Inn Tycoon to your Steam Wishlist today.
